STIPENDIARY STEWARDS:  K R Williams & N M Ydgren

RACE 1: DOLAMORE HORSE TRANSPORT/TOWN & COUNTRY VET TROT
Advertised start time:    11.35am    Actual start time: 11.35.51        Distance: 2400 stand
Trainers were advised that mudguards and wet weather dust sheets were to be affixed.  PAMMYS BOY, IDLE MAPLE, MIDNIGHT MUSIC and GOLD INVASION all broke over the early stages. A warning was placed on the standing start manners of MIDNIGHT MUSIC. GRANT US PEACE and MIDNIGHT MUSIC broke rounding the final bend with MAPLE TWIST being inconvenienced.  RUBY N DIAMONDS broke over the final stages whilst racing prominently. Authorisation of first and fourth placings being awarded to PAMMYS BOY and RUBY N DIAMONDS respectively were withheld until it had been confirmed they had complied with the breaking horse regulations and after it was confirmed that RUBY N DIAMONDS when in a break over the finishing line was not lapped on.  Placings were duly authorised.

RACE 2: RICHMOND TOP 10 HOLIDAY PARK/NELSON MAIL PACE
Advertised start time:    12.05pm       Actual start time: 12.05.47        Distance: 2400 stand
CAPTAIN AL was a late scratching at 9.46am with a Veterinary Certificate to be provided.  BRUNO was scratched by the TAB two minutes prior to race one due to a communication error. This horse was reinstated by the JCA and with permission from the chairman of HRNZ at 11:55am acting under rule 834(5) & (7). All information regarding the reinstatement of BRUNO was reported to all on and off course patrons. RANCHO RELAXO broke and was slow to begin while BRUNO paced roughly after 250m when racing three wide. RANCHO RELAXO momentarily raced three wide with approx 1600m to run when DJ HANOVER shifted outwards however it was established no breach of the push out rule had occurred as DJ HANOVER had shifted ground prior to RANCHO RELAXO reaching his wheel with C D Thornley confirming this. A veterinary examination was requested of JASS after racing below expectation with the results of this examination revealing no abnormalities however it was reported that the horse had taken longer than usual to recover.

RACE 3: WAIMEA ESTATES HARVEY NORMAN F&M MOBILE PACE
Advertised start time:    12.35pm    Actual start time:  12.36.26        Distance: 2400 mobile
Prior to this event the track was upgraded to easy. A warning was placed on the mobile barrier manners of SHINEY PRINCESS due to this mare again being unable to maintain its position behind the mobile gate. AVICMARO (favourite) broke being restrained to the rear of the field racing into the first bend. ESPIRIT JACCKA over raced on occasions during the running with this being evident with 1550m to run when momentarily racing to the inside of the running line before being restrained by P J Davis.  DREAM ON SALLY broke briefly when leading entering the straight on the final occasion when tiring.  DUFTON HANOVER broke briefly in the run home when hanging in and after being shifted wider on the track by SHINEY PRINCESS.  MADUSA tired over the final stages with a warning placed on this horses performance. DREAM ON SALLY was subjected to a post race vet exam which revealed no abnormalties after racing below expectation.  Authorisation of second placing being awarded to AVICMARO was withheld until it had been confirmed the filly had not breached the breaking horses regulation when breaking shortly after the start.

RACE 4: TOMMY BEHRNS PACE
Advertised start time:    1.05pm         Actual start time:  1.05.42        Distance: 2400 stand
GUNMAN was a late scratching at 11.25am with a Veterinary Certificate to be provided after the gelding was kicked in the paddock. Both FRED THE NEEDLE and HELLFIRE LASS broke at the start losing considerable ground. FLASHBANG hung and raced greenly throughout this event and was held up for clear racing room in the run home.

RACE 5: BRIGHTWATER MOTOR INN/WAIMEA CARRIERS HCP TROT
Advertised start time:    1.35pm           Actual start time:  1.36.49        Distance: 3000 stand
GUERRERO and HE TROTTS broke at the start. ANOTHER PLAYER and GUERRERO broke in the run home with both drivers (M Edmonds and C McDowell) advising that their respective runners had broken when they had asked their runners to quicken.

RACE 6: NELSON PINE INDUSTRIES MOBILE PACE
Advertised start time:     2.05pm           Actual start time:  2.05.37        Distance: 2400 mobile
BROKEBACK was back approx two lengths at the start. Stewards charged Mr A Shutkowski under rule 857(7)(g) as the driver of BROKEBACK alleging he had failed to come up into and maintain his position behind the mobile. Mr Shutkowski admitted the breach with the JCA imposing a fine of $200.

RACE 7: THE STAR & GARTER NELSON WINTER CUP HCP PACE
Advertised start time:    2.36pm        Actual start time: 2.38.32        Distance: 3000 stand
FITTLER was a late scratching at 11:26am after the clubs veterinary surgeon examined this gelding and found him to be lame and therefore unfit to race and a Veterinary Certificate of Clearance will be required before the gelding resumes racing. The start of this event was delayed due to SCOT'S COURAGE displaying poor barrier manners. The connections were issued with a warning to improve the geldings standing start manners.  WILL PLAY paced roughly over the initial stages while PARTYBOYSIMON broke and ran out into the path of SUNNIVUE CAESAR. Racing into the first bend LADY SHAMROCK when attempting to go to the lead broke and ran in checking ANOTHER HOMER forcing this gelding inside several markers.  After approx 400m OKARI DAVE broke briefly when positioned four back on the fence. SCOT'S COURAGE (favourite) began well to find the lead before taking a trail but pulled hard throughout the running. This horse was held up briefly in the early stages of the run home before finishing on well for fourth placing. PARTYBOYSIMON over raced and raced greenly during the running and then gave ground from the 500m. A veterinary examination of PARTYBOYSIMON revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 8: MORE FM MOBILE PACE
Advertised start time:  3.11pm       Actual start time:  3.12.19        Distance: 2400 mobile
Prior to this event it was determined that mudguards and wet weather sheets were no longer necessary.  ROJAM CULLEN over raced when racing four back on the running line.  Authorisation of 3rd place being awarded to EXCEL BROMAC (R T May) was withheld until it was established that although the colt had struck pylons when improving on the inside of LORD DIEGO late in the run home it had not shifted inside the marker line.  Stewards also reviewed the film with 150m to run and after hearing from driver G D Smith confirmed that although NUCIFORA was momentarily tightened for racing room by EXCEL BROMAC (R T May) its chances had not been affected as the gelding had commenced to tire.  After the Judge initially gave an incorrect call of placings he immediately gave the corrected placings.  Placings were then duly authorised by the Stipendiary Stewards.  DIOCLETIAN was cleared from the Unruly for future mobile starts.

RACE 9: WAKATU HOTEL DISCRETIONARY HANDICAP PACE
Advertised start time:  3.46pm       Actual start time: 3.51.58         Distance: 2400 stand
Prior to the start I COURAGE refused to come up into position on a number of occasions.  A false start was then declared when the 10m barrier failed to release.  I COURAGE again continued to play up and refused to come into position and dislodged driver D J Dunn from the sulky.  I COURAGE was declared a late scratching by the Stipendiary Stewards under Rule 213(1)(g) due to its barrier manners.  WESTBURN CREED (favourite) broke settling back in the field, before improving wide for a run rounding the final bend and ran on fairly in the run home finishing in 5th place.  Authorisation of all placings were withheld until it was confirmed with the TAB that I COURAGE was a late scratching.  Placings were duly authorised.  The connections of I COURAGE were advised that the gelding had been stood down from standing start events until it trials to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards on two occasions.

RACE 10: CB MARKETING/SMUGGLERS PUB & CAFÉ MOBILE PACE
Advertised start time: 4.20pm           Actual start time: 4.20.31         Distance: 2400 mobile
Driver J T Keast (EASTON FOXY LADY) was spoken to advisedly for the manner in which he drove when shifting ground out for a run in the run home.  Driver J R Dunn advised that he did not activate pull blinds on BLACK MAMBO when clearly having the race won.
