STIPENDIARY STEWARDS:  N G McIntyre, K R Williams, S P Renault

RACE 1: SEARCH "DRIVER PLATE" ON TRADEME TROT
Advertised start time: 12.10pm            Actual start time: 12.10.32pm
Over the early stages CARNLEY, SEEKER DHU and WISHING DEL broke with these runners losing all chance while favourite TUINFRO was slow. Entering the back straight on the first occasion THATS RANDOM broke briefly. Rounding the final bend JESSIE BOYZ broke. TUINFRO trotted roughly throughout the run home. The connections of SEEKER DHU and THATS RANDOM were warned to improve their respective runners barrier and / or racing manners. Driver D G Moore was charged under Rule 868(3) in that he failed to drive CAPITOL DRIVE out over the concluding stages with the JCA dismissing the charge. THAT'S RANDOM was removed from the unruly for future standing starts.

RACE 2: ASHBURTON CLUB LIQUOR CENTRE MOBILE PACE
Advertised start time: 12.40pm            Actual start time: 12.40.59pm
A Veterinary Certificate of Clearance was received for SPLENDIFFEROUS.  In the score up CELTICLANDZ broke being in position at the start.  As the start was effected ROCKDALE STYLE broke settling back on the inner with the connections being warned to improve the mares mobile start manners.  Favourite SPLENDIFFEROUS over-raced when racing three back on the running line. Over the concluding stages DOBINBINLARDIN was denied clear racing room with Driver T S Chmiel advising he did not activate the removable hood.

RACE 3:  100% STEWART & HOLLAND PACE
Advertised start time: 1.10pm                Actual start time: 1.11.00pm
C J De Filippi was authorised as a late change of driver on MOTU POCKET O'JEWELS due to M P Jones being unwell. At the start BORN LUCKY, TALKATIVE HIGH and PUERTO ESCONDIDO and MATAI HUNTER broke. Authorisation of 3rd place was withheld until Stewards were satisfied TALKATIVE HIGH had complied with the breaking horse regulations when in a break over the early stages. Driver C J De Filippi (MOTU POCKET O'JEWELS) was charged under Rule 847(2) for failing to securely fasten his helmet during the running with the JCA dismissing the charge.

RACE 4: RX PLASTICS 3YO MOBILE PACE
Advertised start time: 1.40pm                Actual start time: 1.40.43pm
T S Chmiel was authorised as a late change of driver on DIOCLETIAN due to M P Jones being unwell. Driver T W Jellyman (BETTY LOUISE) dropped his leg entering the straight on the first occasion. Mr Jellyman was advised to make a greater effort to place his foot back in the foot rest. Entering the back straight on the final occasion STRANDHILL broke with the connections warned to improve the filly's racing manners.  HIGHVIEW PHANTOM hung on several occasions.

RACE 5: MAINLAND WOOL HANDICAP TROT
Advertised start time: 2.10pm                Actual start time: 2.11.10pm
CHANGE OF MIND, NOWUNO and CALL TRUMPS broke over the early stages losing considerable ground. The connections of NOWUNO were warned to improve their geldings standing start manners.

RACE 6: FULTON HOGAN LTD PACE
Advertised start time: 2.47pm                Actual start time: 2.47.52pm
At the start DARNIE CORNETTA, RUNNING UNDER FIRE, GOODFIELDS DREAM and INNOCENT TALK broke. Favourite INNOCENT TALK (D J Dunn) after breaking at the start improved three wide with cover to race handy on the outer nearing the 800m, finishing in last place with a subsequent veterinary inspection revealing no abnormalities. Driver D J Dunn was questioned regarding the performance advising he believed the horse was a false favourite and had to work too hard during the running. The connections of RUNNING UNDER FIRE were warned to improve their geldings standing start manners with the connections advising they would be adding hopple shorteners to the gear.

RACE 7: TERRY CHMIEL DRIVERS PLATE ON TRADE ME MOBILE PACE
Advertised start time: 3.22pm                Actual start time: 3.22.50pm
Entering the back straight on the first occasion FATHER BILL struck a marker when racing on the inside of the hanging NOTHINGSWEETABOUTME. Rounding the final bend RAVEN struck a pylon when racing in confined quarters. Stewards requested a veterinary inspection on BORN AGAIN COURAGE after giving ground at the 900m with the inspection revealing no abnormalities. A warning was placed against the geldings racing performance. Driver G D Smith (RAVEN) was charged under Rule 869(2) (a) for excessive use of the whip and was fined the sum of $200 by the JCA.

RACE 8: BLAIR ORANGE DRIVERS PLATE ON TRADEME MOBILE PACE
Advertised start time: 3.57pm                Actual start time: 3.57.47pm
MISTY DIAMOND hung on a number of occasions. Favourite LUCY LOWE raced handy on the outer improved three wide nearing the 1200m to race in the one one finishing in 9th place. Driver A M Butt advised he could offer no tangible reason for the filly's performance.  C D Thornley (ROMAN AFFAIR) was reminded of his obligations to maintain a straight course in the run home.

GENERAL

Adjourned Enquiry from Race 5 at Timaru HRC 2 May 2010
Driver A L Jenkins (CEE UIN L A) was warned for the manner in which she shifted ground with 600m to run when placing runners to her inside in restricted room.

Adjourned Enquiry from Race 3 at Timaru HRC 16 May 2010
Trainer K G Coutts admitted a breach under Rule 869(2) (a) for unnecessary use of the whip on BELLA'S LAD being fined the sum of $200 by the JCA.

Adjourned Enquiry from Race 9 at Timaru HRC 16 May 2010
Trainer's D & C Butt were charged under Rule 865(4) in that they failed to notify that FERNLEIGH RENEGADE would race in Pull Down Blinds and were fined the sum of $100 by the JCA.

Trainer K M Barron advised that following the Rangiora HRC meeting on 9 May 2010 he had SOUNDS ALIVE inspected by his Vet and it was found that the filly had enlarged ovaries which accounted for its lacklustre performance and would be treated accordingly.

Trainers T & G Chmiel advised that COURAGEOUS BOY after racing at Timaru on 16 May 2010 had been blood tested with the results revealing an infection.  The gelding has been subjected to a course of anti-biotics and would be turned out for a short spell.
Trainer P G O'Reilly advised that following the Timaru HRC meeting on 16 May 2010 CLIFTON FLIER was inspected by his Veterinary Surgeon and it was established that the filly had a wind complaint and would be having surgery to correct this problem.

This may not necessarily be the last report pertaining to this meeting as all race videos will be further reviewed.
