RACE 1: REEFTON BUSINESS COMMUNITY TROT

STUBMEISTER was reluctant to resume its position behind the tapes and then was slow to begin. ABBOTSHALL broke at the start before settling briefly and then switching into a pace before galloping again with a warning placed on the gelding's standing start manners. Approaching the crossing on the first occasion FAMILY ROBINSON broke when racing at the back of the field. With 750m remaining STUBMEISTER broke with Stewards requesting a veterinary examination of this colt after it appeared to pull up in a distressed state. The result of this examination was that the horse had pulled up with an elevated heart rate and was exhibiting an unusual breathing pattern. Entering the home straight EARL HARBOUR broke after it had lost contact with the leaders. WAX AND WANE broke in the run home after driver C D Thornley activated the removable hood. Stewards withheld payment of fifth stake until they had confirmed that although ABBOTSHALL had galloped in excess of 150m over the early stages it had not done so continuously and accordingly its placing was cleared.
RACE 2: SPEIGHTS PACE

There was a one minute delay at the start of this event at the request of the TAB. FAIRHALL ROSE, RURIK and GLENLIVET broke at the start while WIND RUNNER tangled. With 1700m to run WIND RUNNER broke after pacing roughly. With 1400m remaining WINGED FOOT paced roughly and broke inconveniencing WIND RUNNER who was checked into another gallop. WIND RUNNER broke again with 1000m to run with a warning being placed on the gelding's racing manners. WINGED FOOT paced roughly rounding the final bend.
RACE 3: ELECTRONET FILLIES & MARES PACE

A D Stuart as the trainer of EL MAGIC was charged a $25 colour fee. SEYCHELLES, SHE CAUGHT THE KATY, AGUILERA, KAMWOOD BLUE CHIP and FOUR O FIVE all broke at the start while EL MAGIC tangled with a warning being placed on the standing start manners of FOUR O FIVE. With 600m remaining RUBY MAE galloped with a warning being placed on the racing manners of this mare. AGUILERA (favourite) after making a tardy beginning settled three back in the outside racing line before improving forwards three wide with 1300m to run to race parked for the remainder of the event and fought well for its fourth placing. FLAXTON FILLY was cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.
RACE 4: BIRCHFIELD COALMINES MOBILE PACE

OPPOSING VIEWS was a late scratching at 11.50 am after suffering from a stone bruise. LE PRESIDENT refused to score up behind the mobile and was well out of position at the start point with this gelding being declared unruly for future mobile starts with the connections advised that the horse must trial satisfactorily on one occasion from a mobile start before being eligible to resume racing. With 1700m remaining MARLON raced greenly and broke for a stride. BRUNO over-raced during the running with driver W Higgs advising as he had been late getting clear he had not activated the removal of the ear plugs. MARLON was cleared from the unruly for future mobile starts.
RACE 5: BUCCLEUGH'S ON HIGH MOBILE PACE

AIM ALOOF broke at the start with a warning being placed on the gelding's mobile barrier manners.
RACE 6: COAST FM MOBILE PACE

CUZZIES VEECEE broke prior to the start point with the connections advised that the gelding had been declared ineligible for 14 days due to the manner in which it has raced at its last two starts. Racing over the crossing on the final occasion POLLY JOE broke, momentarily inconveniencing ME'S CULLEN. With 700m left to race UNLEASH THE FURY, who was racing three wide with cover, galloped with a warning being placed on the mare's racing manners. With 400m remaining ICONU broke as a result of hanging outwards with driver K G Cameron advising he had difficulty containing the mare at this point of the race.
RACE 7: NZ SUSTAINABLE FOREST PRODUCTS PACE

There was a considerable delay to the start of this event due to several runners displaying poor barrier manners with CLOUDSAFLYIN being sent to the unruly position for the restart with this gelding being placed on the unruly for future standing starts. TOUGH RULE, FESTIVAL JEWEL and TOWN ICON broke at the start. After 200m BOOGIESTOM broke. With 1400m remaining TOUGH RULE broke again. With 1100m to run BOOGIESTOM broke with a warning placed on the gelding's racing manners. With 650m to run TOWN ICON galloped when racing at the back of the field. GUNMAN broke rounding the final bend. NOVEMBER RAIN (favourite) after receiving an economical run throughout failed to flatter over the final stages. Driver R D Holmes advised that the filly had held an inclination to run out throughout the race. GUNMAN was cleared from the unruly position for future standing starts.
RACE 8: RANGIORA FLOORPRIDE GREYMOUTH CUP

There was a lengthy delay to the start of this event due to several horses displaying poor barrier manners with MCKAY being sent to the unruly where it will remain from this point on. TO RI DETTE, MCKAY and SONNY ALBERT broke at the start. After approximately 500m MCKAY broke again for several strides. With 2400m remaining PLATINUM RULE was obliged to race three wide after MOTU SPEEDY STAR had been shifted from the running line to the two-wide position due to trainer/driver I R Cameron being unable to hold the gelding. Authorisation of first placing being awarded to PACIFIC FLEET was momentarily withheld until it could be confirmed that this gelding had not activated the standing start tapes by making contact with them prior to the start. L F O'Reilly as the driver of HUNTER THE PUNTER advised he received a punctured sulky tyre during the running. SAM RULE was cleared from the unruly for future standing starts.
RACE 9: PIKE RIVER COAL PACE

GALLEONS AMBITION gave ground with 600m to run after racing three wide without cover up to this point, being unable to assume a position within the body of the field. Favourite WILL PLAY settled towards the rear of the field before improving three wide with cover with 700m to run to be handy to the leaders turning in and ran on well for fourth place.
RACE 10: RECREATION HOTEL DRIVERS PACE

VAN THE MAN broke after approximately 150m. ANVLS BIG PUNT (favourite) broke with 400m to run with driver R J Butt advising that the gelding had paced roughly throughout. A protest was lodged into first placing being awarded to SONNETSSON under Rule 869(4) & (8), the details of which being that with approximately 550m to run SONNETSSON struck the sulky tyre of the existing leader, MELS DREAM, causing the wheel to go flat and the tube to wrap around the rim which in turn dislodged the wheel disc. After hearing from drivers T M Williams (MELS DREAM) and C McDowell (SONNETSSON) assisted by P J Davis and also hearing from Stewards and viewing the film, the JCA upheld the protest and relegated SONNETSSON to eighth placing. An associated charge alleging careless driving was lodged under Rule 869(3)(b) against junior horseman C McDowell with Mr McDowell admitting the breach with the JCA imposing a fine to the sum of $250.
RACE 11: GREYMOUTH STAR TROT

T Craddock was charged a $25 colour fee. As the tapes were released KAWARAU KING swung sideways briefly impeding the progress of CHALLENGE OPAWA, TEHORO DIVA and EL ALAMEIN. Stewards placed KAWARAU KING on the unruly for future standing starts. BIDDY BID and LOUGH BEG also galloped at the start. CHALLENGE OPAWA broke racing into the first bend. Approaching the crossing on the first occasion VALLEY OF FIRE and MEDORA locked stays when K D Townley (MEDORA) eased VALLEY OF FIRE (R H Jenkins) down to the fence. VALLEY OF FIRE then broke shortly afterwards when racing over the crossing. TEHORA DIVA broke with 1900m to run, again breaking 200m afterwards checking SPOT OF GOLD and NEVILLE VAUGHAN, with the connections advised that a warning had been placed on the mare's racing manners. Rounding the final bend LOUGH BEG, CHALLENGE OPAWA and SEA SPRAY CINDY broke whilst NEVILLE VAUGHAN trotted roughly. When racing without room and travelling well late in the run home DOUBLE BUNDY broke.
