RACE 1: NORTH CANTERBURY TROTTING OWNERS ASSOCIATION TROT

After the start was effected J D PAT reared and swung inwards checking DOUBLE BUNDY into a break. SHOE IN and ANOTHER ROUND also broke at the start with ANOTHER ROUND refusing to settle and losing all chance. R J Latimer as the trainer of ANOTHER ROUND advised he would no longer be persevering with this gelding. After approx 250m SUN PRINCE switched to a pace before being returned to its proper gait with this gelding breaking again 200m later. With approx 800m to run SUN PRINCE broke again with Stewards requesting a veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. Stewards also requested an examination of the beaten favourite GOLDSTAR INVASION after this gelding failed to impress after receiving a relatively economical run throughout with this inspection revealing no abnormalities. Driver P C Nairn (MCCREADY) admitted using his whip in an excessive manner after being charged with a breach of Rule 869(2)(a) with his horsemans' license being suspended from after the conclusion of racing on the 7th of March 2010 up to and including the 14th of March 2010 by the JCA. During the course of the hearing Mr Nairn advised it was his intention to geld MCCREADY before resuming racing.
RACE 2: ICE BLOODSTOCK LTD MOBILE PACE

The start of this event was rescheduled to 6.23pm at the request of the TAB. JASPER THE GHOST was scratched after being declared ineligible due to a scratching penalty imposed at the Winton HRC meeting yesterday. The knee boots on LOVENCOURAGE had to be replaced prior to the start after one had broken in the preliminary. This gear was inspected and found to be in previously good condition. TAMANISHA was denied clear racing room until late in the run home. MISTY DIAMOND hung out when attempting to gain a run in the passing lane over the final stages and contacted the sulky wheel of BLACK CRACKER shortly after the line resulting in BY APPOINTMENT briefly falling and TALLULAH BELLE being severely checked. A veterinary examination was requested of BY APPOINTMENT which revealed no abnormalities. Driver R J Butt (BLACK CRACKER - 3rd) was questioned regarding the performance of this colt which started as a $2.60 favourite. Mr Butt advised he was forced to work too hard to gain the lead with 1300m to run which was detrimental to his chances. R J Butt admitted a breach of Rule 869(2)(a) for excessive use of the whip in the run home and was fined $250 by the JCA with an official warning being issued that a further breach of this rule would likely result in a suspension or significant fine.
RACE 3: WAI-EYRE FARM "RANGIORA CLASSIC" 9TH MAY PACE

Over the early stages TOGETHER AGAIN and EVERYDAYSAGOODAY broke with CAESARION breaking when being checked by EVERYDAYSAGOODAY. Shortly after the start, PURE VISION broke when racing in confined quarters and paced roughly for the majority of the event before commencing to give ground passing the 600m mark. Following on from a veterinary inspection the connections of PURE VISION advised they would be having the mare checked out by their veterinarian prior to racing again due to some anomalies detected by the clubs veterinary surgeon with the mares recovery. CAESARION ($3.40 favourite) after being checked early failed to settle and lost all chance. The connections of TOGETHER AGAIN, EVERYDAYSAGOODAY, PURE VISION and CAESARION were warned to improve their respective horse's standing start and/or racing manners. The connections of CAESARION advised they would be returning the gelding to the trials prior to resuming. Stewards were notified that TOGETHER AGAIN would be restricted to mobile starts in the near future. Trainer A G Sutherland (KIWI ALI) admitted a breach of Rule 864(2)(d) alleging that he failed to affix the near side front hopple carrier so as not to come adrift and was fined $100 by the JCA.
RACE 4: SEELITE WINDOWS & DOORS "SIRES STAKES" MOBILE TROT (HEAT 1)

In the score up FIRE IN THE NIGHT, KYLIE REE and SUNSCOMING broke before settling prior to the start. Shortly after the start SASTRE broke. Racing into the first bend CONTADOR also broke checking DONALDSON in the process. SUNSCOMING was observed to exhibit an abnormal gait for the majority of the event. Stewards conducted an inquiry into a perceived breach of the push out rule when DOLLY WOULD was observed to shift four wide passing the 1350m. After viewing the replays and hearing from driver K D Townley (DOLLY WOULD) it was established that LATHERONWHEEL had already shifted three wide at that point and Mr Townley had shifted four wide after he was improving at such a rate it would be more beneficial to move wider. No further action was considered necessary. The connections of SASTRE and KYLIE REE were warned to improve their respective horse's mobile barrier manners.
RACE 5: SHEPHERD & KIME LTD PACE
Advertised start time: 7.41pm Actual start time: 7.41.28pm
Both SONNETSSON and NASHOTA broke shortly after the start with NASHOTA losing a considerable amount of ground. J B McDermott as the trainer of BEARDSLEY admitted a breach of Rule 865(4) in that he failed to advise this horse would race without pull down blinds as previously notified and was fined $100 by the JCA.
RACE 6: PGG WRIGHTSON NZ YEARLING SALES (SERIES 18) TROTTERS FINAL
Advertised start time: 8.06pm Actual start time: 8.06.27pm
MICKEY ROCHFORT broke in the score up and took no part in this event. DEALORNODEAL gave ground rounding the final bend. DENNY H broke with 400m remaining. JINJA GAL after trailing for the majority of the event broke upon entering the home straight with ENDEAVOUR SUNSET breaking shortly after. The connections of MICKEY ROCHFORT were advised that their gelding had been stood down from all stake bearing events for a period of fourteen days.
RACE 7: MONKEY KING - BONDY - BAILEYS DREAM HANDICAP PACE
Advertised start time: 8.31pm Actual start time: 8.31.24pm
KIDDING AROUND, JACK HINTON, TATOO, TE KINGA BOY and MOTU SPEEDY STAR broke over the early stages with the connections of KIDDING AROUND and JACK HINTON being warned to improve their respective horse's standing start barrier manners. Driver J R Dunn advised he did not activate the pull down blinds on RED BARON after being held up for clear racing room. OUR SOUTHERN MAN also failed to gain clear racing room in the run home. J R Dunn was questioned as to why he had not elected to access the passing lane when it had become available at the top of the straight when TE KINGA BOY had run out leaving ETRUSCAN as the pole horse. Mr Dunn was shown the film and advised that his horse had been racing keenly at the time and in conjunction with the horse running away from the boring pole he had been unable to take the inside run. Mr Dunn's comments were accepted by Stewards.
RACE 8: PAUL YESBERG (NEARLY 50) MOBILE PACE

ATOMIC CLOUD struck pylons racing into the first bend. WILLIE V C over-raced through the middle stages and paced roughly when being angled into the three wide line. LOUIE CULLEN ($4.10 favourite) was restrained from the mobile and obliged to race three wide for the following 1000m before reaching the parked position then gaining the one - one for the remainder of the race. This gelding was then observed to run on well for 4th placing. P D Young as the trainer of WIBAHE ZEUS admitted a breach of Rule 864(2)(d) after one of the pull down blinds failed to activate with the JCA imposing a fine of $100.
RACE 9: SLIMMAR SHOP FITTINGS LTD HANDICAP TROT

With 900m to run IDID IT MYWAY broke when racing at the back of the field and 50m later CONAGHER broke. The connections of CONAGHER were advised a warning had been placed on the gelding's racing manners.
RACE 10: RANGIORA HARNESS RACING CLUB MEMBERS MOBILE PACE

RARE SURPRISE over-raced during the running when racing towards the rear of the field before racing erratically rounding the final bend. Driver G D Smith advised he did not activate the removable earplugs on PARTY GIRL BECQUI due to being held up for clear racing room throughout the run home while FIGO failed to gain clear racing room over the final stages. A veterinary inspection was requested to be carried out on RARE SURPRISE which revealed no abnormalities and the connections were advised a warning had been placed on the gelding's racing manners. Mr J Dunn was questioned as to the poor performance of RARE SURPRISE. Mr Dunn stated he would be removing the boring pole in an attempt to alter the manner in which the gelding had steered over the final 600m.
