The Kids Go Racing programme is designed to make going to the races fun for
families, and give children a first-hand experience of
harness racing which may lead them on to becoming industry
participants.
A free service to the public, Kids Go Racing operates during
summer at both country and metro race meetings throughout
New Zealand. In the past the Kids Go Racing teams have been
flooded with outstanding numbers of participants, the record
is currently held by the Banks Peninusla Trotting Club where a
whopping 783 children entered the competitions. The Central
Otago Trotting Club is close behind with 780 kids entering
one year.
You can also learn all about Harness Racing, enter
competitions and buy merchandise from any of our friendly
Kids Go Racing team. You may even spot Hopples the HRNZ
mascot and even get a photo with him, to mark your special
day at the races!
2010/11 Information
We are now into our 8th year of travelling the country with
our big blue caravan and everyone’s favourite mascot –
Hopples! This year is going to be even bigger and better
with more venues holding Kids Go Racing and an exciting new
competition, amongst many other things.

HOPPLES
Keep an eye out for Hopples as he makes his way around the
racecourses of NZ to meet harness racing fans. If you’re
lucky enough, he may even pose for a photo.
DESIGN YOUR ISLAND'S COLOURS
This year our Kids Go Racing competition is pretty cool. You
could win a daily prize and be in the running to win a
family trip to the 2011 inter Dominion! You may even get to meet our top
junior drivers like Dexter Dunn, Matty Williamson,
Josh Dickie or Mitchell Kerr at Kids Go Racing….all you have to do is
design their Colours!
HORSEPOWER DERBY
The inflatable
horses are back this Summer! They’re very similar to “moon-hoppers”, so you will
need to use your bouncing skills to race these horses. The
competition will be run with heats and
then a final in the birdcage.
KIDS GO RACING PACKS
The free Kids Go Racing packs are back this year with some
fun and exciting stuff. Every kid that enters the 'Design
Your Island's Colours' competition will be able to get one bag
filled with goodies.
There are many more things going on at Kids Go Racing
including our photo booth, Kidz Kartz, horse shoe and
sulky pull competitions. So head along over Summer to
your nearest venue and participate in the awesome events and
exciting
competitions.
