Harness racing plays an important part in the lives of
many thousands of New Zealanders through employment,
entertainment and the hundreds of businesses that service
the industry.
With the new Health and Physical Education Curriculum being
introduced into schools, HRNZ and the ATC were keen to
develop a resource that schools could easily use to support
their planning and teaching in this area.
In
establishing links between education and our industry HRNZ
have been very conscious of providing a resource that
focuses on the people and the horses in Harness Racing, not
the wagering aspect of the industry.
This resource can be easily integrated with current school
programmes. It offers support through a flexible
curriculum, stimulating activities with valuable and cost
efficient resources, a tutor, a field trip, a horse and
driver and the resource kit.
